MEMORANDUM – COVID-19 UPDATE

January 4, 2021

Dear Canterbury Residents, Employees, Family Members, Trustees, and Community Partners,

I hope you all are having a good start to your new year.  Despite the new year, we are continuing to see more cases of Covid-19 both within our larger community as well as Canterbury Court.  Today we learned that a third party contractor that works at Canterbury Court has tested positive for the virus.  We have identified those that were in contact with them 48 hours prior to their onset of symptoms so that they can quarantine and get tested.

There have been many questions regarding the upcoming vaccination clinic that CVS will be conducting in our Community on January 11th.  At this time, the vaccinations are only available for our healthcare residents on the 2nd and 3rd floor and our staff.  This limitation is on the part of CVS who is administering the vaccine, not Canterbury Court. Our teams have advocated heavily with CVS to have the vaccine be available for all of our residents.  We were told today from our CVS representative that their contract with the CDC prevents them from making the vaccine available to Independent Living residents despite Governor Kemp’s recent announcement that adults 65 years and older would be included in the 1a priority group.  We have enlisted LeadingAge GA and LeadingAge National advocacy to assist us with efforts to have the CDC revise their contracts so that we can make the vaccine available for the entire community.  We have been in communication with other communities as well to see what information they are receiving regarding their vaccination clinics. We are aware of two communities that have been successful in getting vaccinations for Independent Living residents in their first clinic, however, other communities,  including Lenbrook and Lanier Village, have not been able to include their Independent Living residents in their first clinics.

We are still hopeful we may be able to have Independent Living residents included in our January 11th clinic.  If we are not successful for this first clinic, we have a second clinic scheduled for February 1st and we will continue to push to have Independent Living residents included in that clinic.
