July 21, 2020
Dear Canterbury Residents, Employees, Family Members, Trustees, and Community Partners,
Last Wednesday, July 15th, CORE conducted onsite testing for our employees as well as a number of our residents. They were able to test 210 individuals that day. As of this afternoon, we have received results for 180 of the tests with only 1 positive case identified. The positive individual is a staff member who works on our Personal Care floor. The staff member has stated that they are not experiencing any symptoms. This staff member has not been on the schedule to work since last Thursday, July 16th and will not return to work until they receive a negative test result. All residents on our third floor have been tested as a precautionary measure and we are awaiting those results. We are following our protocols for quarantining as appropriate.
We are very happy to report that 5 of the 9 employees and the Independent Living resident that had previously tested positive for COVID-19 are now negative. As of today, we have 5 employees and no residents that are positive.
At this time, we feel ready to move forward with allowing visitors inside our building for all Independent Living residents beginning Monday, July 27th. The same restrictions we introduced for family members providing essential care will apply. Visitors will be limited to two individuals over the age of 18 for visitation inside a resident’s apartment only. All visitors must wear a mask, pass our screening protocols, and practice social distancing. We ask that visitors not use an elevator with anyone other than the individuals they are visiting. Visitors under the age of 18 may visit in our gardens.
The Governor’s Shelter in Place order for individuals living in long term care and personal care homes has been extended through July 31st, and we are unable to allow visitors for those residents while that order remains in place.
We will continue to keep you informed if we learn of any new cases.
