MEMORANDUM – COVID-19 Update

July 8, 2020

Dear Canterbury Residents, Employees, Family Members, Trustees, and Community Partners,

We have continued to receive results from our testing that was done in the community through CORE on June 26th and June 29th and we have not received any additional positive results from those two testing days.  However, since the testing last week, a staff member who had tested negative began to experience symptoms and has now tested positive for COVID-19.

We have been in touch with the residents and employees that the staff member identified as having been in close contact with up to two days prior to experiencing symptoms and we have implemented our quarantine protocols. We are following the CDC’s guidelines for close contact which they define as within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes.

Cases in the U.S. hit a new record high yesterday at over 55,000.  Georgia cases yesterday were reported at over 3,400.  The best prevention to avoid illness from the coronavirus is to avoid potential exposure from close contact with others.   The virus is transmitted through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks.  Wear a mask to prevent others if you may be infected and not know it.   Avoid close contact with others who aren’t wearing a mask as they may be infected and not showing symptoms and unknowingly spread it to you.

Our teams have arranged for CORE to provide regular testing at our community every two weeks beginning on July 15th through the end of September.  CORE provides this testing at no charge through Federal funding.  The tests will continue to be self-administered and we will make the testing available to family members and community partners as space permits. We will be changing our process to schedule time slots in advance to try to reduce wait times.

We will continue to keep everyone informed as we learn of any new cases.
