MEMORANDUM ā€“ COVID-19 Update

June 22, 2020

Dear Canterbury Residents, Employees, Family Members, Trustees, and Community Partners,

Iā€™m writing today to let you know that we have learned that both an employee and an outside caregiver for an Independent Living resident have recently tested positive for COVID-19.

We have initiated contact tracing for both instances. We believe the risk to residents and employees from the outside caregiver is extremely low. That caregiver only provides service to a single individual in Independent Living who has not been outside their apartment in many months.  The caregiver has not had any direct contact with any other residents or staff at Canterbury aside from our screening procedures at the front desk at which time they were wearing a mask. This caregiver will remain in quarantine and will not return to Canterbury until they have tested negative twice more than 24 hours apart.

We have also been in contact with all other residents and staff that may have been exposed to the employee who has tested positive and all will follow our protocols for quarantining and or monitoring for symptoms for the next 14 days. These protocols are available on the Coronavirus Update section of our website at www.canterburycourt.org.

The safety and health of our residents and staff is our number one priority.  With the reopening of the city and the removal of the Shelter in Place order for all but those in long term care settings as well as those with certain underlying medical conditions, we expect that we will continue to see individuals connected to our community test positive. We will remain vigilant in our efforts to screen those entering our building, provide regular testing opportunities for our residents, staff, family members and community partners, and contact trace and implement our policies and protocols when new cases are identified.

We have two free upcoming testing opportunities available at our community on Friday June 26th as well as June 29th.  A separate communication will be coming shortly with more detailed information on how to participate.  Testing will be mandatory for staff and we strongly encourage residents and family members to be tested as well.
