May 29: Updated COVID-19 Policies and Procedures

May 29, 2020

Dear Canterbury Residents, Family Members, Trustees, and Community Partners,

For the last three months, Canterbury Court has taken significant measures to protect our Community from the Coronavirus.  We believe our early actions played a significant role in our ability to minimize the impact of the virus on our residents and employees.  To date, we have had only one independent living resident test positive in March for the virus and that resident has since made a full recovery.  We have had two employees test positive through routine screening while exhibiting no symptoms.  Both employees have been quarantined, and we are excited to share that one of those employees is now virus free. Neither employee was in direct contact with any residents. We will remain vigilant in our efforts to keep the virus out of our community through daily screening of all individuals entering our building and we are looking at options for regular testing and/or other enhanced screening measures.

While safety is a top priority, we also recognize the need for life at Canterbury to begin to resume and we would like to share some changes we are making to our COVID-19 policies and procedures.

Effective June 1st, the 14-day quarantine requirement will be lifted for independent living residents that  leave the community. Governor Kemp’s shelter in place order is still in effect for individuals over the age of 65 through June 12th, however, and residents should only be leaving the building for essential needs.  Effective June 1st, we will also begin allowing visitors outside in our gardens. Visitors will need to check in and be screened at our front desk and then may proceed outside of the building to the North or South parking lot entrances to be let into the gardens by the resident. Visitors must wear a mask while in the gardens, utilize one of the designated seating areas, and maintain appropriate social distancing. The current restriction for visitors inside of our building will remain in place.

The leadership team is continuing to work on plans to reopen other areas of the community and we will announce those changes once those plans are finalized.
