Our History

Canterbury Court, a non-profit home for the retired, was established in 1965 through the visionary efforts of Frank Player and Margaret Hancock. Frank, a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church and Margaret, a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church solicited the help of their rectors and others in their parishes to develop and sponsor a retirement community that would be known as Canterbury Court. The original building, the North Tower, opened in 1965; Canterbury’s first expansion, the South Tower, opened in 1991 and the West Tower project, our newest expansion and renovation, opened December 1, 2005.

Canterbury Court is governed by an eighteen member Board of Trustees, each Trustee serving a term of three years. Each of the two sponsoring churches appoints six Trustees; those twelve in turn elect six At-Large members. This Board, which serves without compensation, has a long history of being proactive in addressing and providing for the needs of our senior population through quality continuing care. Andrea Price, Executive Director of Canterbury Court, has held the position since 1990. There are 11 department directors and 145 employees who provide services and amenities to the community of 250+ residents, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
